Using mini DV tape, DVD disc or memory card as storage media, most models are very compact in size, weighing 185 to 720 grams, and easy to carry. For the first time, included among the samples was a camcorder using only memory card for storage, which is hence particularly small and light in weight.
The camcorders were compared and rated for their performance on video image quality, still picture quality, sound quality, convenience of use, battery and versatility.
Optical zoom range for most samples are at least 10, good enough for taking video at a far distance.
Most camcorders also act as digital cameras; users may take still pictures and store images in memory card.
Most digital camcorders provide also facilities for connection to a computer for digital data transfer.
