Consumer complaints have been brought against some unscrupulous spectacles shops engaged in malpractices to lure customers.
Highlighted in CHOICE are three cases of complaints to alert unwary consumers falling victim of these sharp practices.
In many instances, consumers were literally stopped while passing by spectacles shop, and lured into the shop on the pretext that there was something amiss with their spectacles or of proffering such service as to have their glasses cleaned free of charge, etc.
Once inside the premises, the hapless consumers were often pressurized to make purchases which some consumers reluctantly agreed much to their regret later.
Also contained in the report are guidelines in the choice and maintenance of contact lenses, and related medical advice.
