Setting up your own private theatre in the comfort and convenience of home?
The Consumer Council has published a comprehensive, precise comparative test report on six models of complete set of home theatre kits in the price range of $1,680 to $4,780.
The test focused over a vast range of performance in respect of audio, video, tuner, error correction of the DVD player, and energy consumption. Also assessed were their mechanical noise, convenience and versatility.
Laboratory measurement, and listening and viewing tests by panelists were included in the audio and video assessment respectively. Tuner performances were measured in the laboratory, including the accuracy of locking on the right radio channels.
Disks with various types of errors were deliberately fed into the DVD samples to assess their relative error correction ability. Also assessed by panelists were convenience from unpacking the box, connecting the wires to the speakers, to setting up the whole set ready for enjoyment.
Consumers are advised to consult the full details of the test in the February issue of CHOICE.
