Contemplating buying a digital photo frame for a gift or personal use?
The Consumer Council has put to test, for the first time, 16 models of digital photo frames with a screen size of 6.5 to 10.1 inches.
The results are quite an eye-opener to prospective buyers. Based on their performance (55%), convenience (25%), versatility (15%) and environmental considerations (5%), none of the samples could achieve the top 5-point score.
The top performers with a 4-point score were 3 models priced from $1,990 (the highest priced model) to $1,590.
The majority (10) scored 3.5 points. The lowest score of 2.5 points was given to a digital photo frame priced at a modest $499 (the cheapest model).
With variations in performance, consumers should pay attention to their versatility (the number of features and functions which may or may not be of use to you).
For instance, the test models differed vastly in their internal memory ranging from a low 8MB to 1024MB - most have 128MB. Some of the test models do not have internal memory.
Some can play video and music, have internal speaker, remote control or Bluetooth, as well as built-in calendar and alarm.
