Is hair transplant truly the ultimate solution to your hair loss problem?
But even if you are convinced, do take your time and don't rush into a decision.
The Consumer Council strongly advised anyone contemplating hair transplant to first consult medical professionals and to consider carefully the pros and cons of such costly surgery.
In its study, the Council noted that some beauty salons allegedly claimed that they would be able to refer clients to doctors for hair transplant consultation and surgery.
Consumers are advised not to make any hasty decision or to make any payment to beauty salons without proper medical consultation.
They should fully understand the nature of the surgery and the related risk factors; and if there is still any doubt, they should consult their family doctors.
In the report it was noted that there may be many reasons for hair loss. Proper diagnosis is necessary to establish the cause of the problem and to apply the appropriate treatment.
Some people are considered not suitable for hair transplant: if they have active inflammatory or auto-immune scalp disease, poor donor site density or fine hair caliber, and are younger than 25 years of age.
Further, they should consider surgical risk factors specific to hair transplant which include: poor growth of the graft, scar formation, forehead swelling, necrosis, hyper-esthesia or hypo-esthesia, folliculitis, pitting and tenting, and surgical effluvium.
They should also take note of such general surgical risk factors as bleeding, swelling, bruise, pain and infection.
After the surgery, the patients should follow strictly the doctor's instructions and take medications if necessary.
