The annual Consumer Council survey on textbook revision has shown satisfactory result in the revised textbooks sampled this year.
Among the 9 volumes surveyed, a revised Chinese History textbook was found to be priced 15.5% higher than its old edition.
The revised edition, comprising 2 volumes instead of the previous 1 only, had its price increased from $164.50 to $190 ($95x2) this year.
Simultaneously, the revised Chinese History textbook also went up in the number of pages from 232 to 352, an increase of 120 pages or 51.5%.
The Council's annual survey compared the new and old editions of 9 volumes of secondary textbooks - 3 Chinese History, 4 Chinese Language and 2 Mathematics.
It involved two expert groups in the education field to give comments on the necessity of the revisions. The assessment criteria were based mainly on the justifications of changes to the contents, chapter sequence and design of the textbooks.
The Chinese History textbook was 1 of 2 samples judged by the experts to be "necessary to revise".
The remainder 7 samples were judged to be "quite necessary to revise". There was no recommendation of "reprint with minor amendments" in the survey this year.
