The October issue of CHOICE also carries a comparative report on digital cameras. Highlight of the report are:
- 27 new models of digital cameras of mid to high zoom ratio were assessed for picture quality, flash performance, video quality, quality of monitor display, ease of use and versatility. Their approximate retail prices were from HK$1,680 to HK$6,600.
- All samples are capable of taking high definition (HD) video, but some do not have powerful video encoder and the resulting video files would occupy a lot of image storage.
- 6 samples do not come with HDMI output which is useful for connecting directly to television set or computer monitor for video playback.
- Practical picture quality and colour reproduction are generally quite good for most samples, but image stabilisation performance varies significantly.
- Although all samples are equipped with HD video recording capability, video sharpness varies in different samples and some of them are even disappointing.
