The 25th Consumer Rights Reporting Awards (CRRA) organised by the Consumer Council is now open for application. Interested media organisations and journalists should submit their online application form and entry files by 30 April 2025. The presentation ceremony will be held in the fourth quarter of 2025.
Nine award categories will be covered in the CRRA this year, namely the “Feature Writing Award”, “Investigative Reporting Award”, “Audio Reporting Award”, “Video Reporting Award (Short Clip – 5 minutes or under)”, “Video Reporting Award (Long Clip – over 5 minutes)”, “News Photography Award”, “Tertiary Student Journalism Award”, “Best Use of Social Media in Consumer Advocacy” and “Topical Reporting Award 2024”. To promote public participation, the 5 finalist entries for the “News Photography Award” and “Tertiary Student Journalism Award” will continue to be open for public voting.
The selected topic for “Topical Reporting Award 2024” – Consumer Rights Beyond Boundaries – was announced early last year with an aim of encouraging reporting on this issue. Media members are invited to submit entries that deliver this topic to grab the chance of winning a cash prize of HK$20,000. The topic for 2025 is Protecting the Consumer Rights of the Silver Generation, encouraging media to feature challenges faced by elderly consumers and issues related to their rights protection. Entries for this topic can be submitted at the next CRRA in 2026 (i.e. the 26th CRRA).
A prestigious annual award in the industry, the CRRA is organised by the Consumer Council with an objective to recognise journalistic excellence in consumer rights issues. The adjudication panel comprises representatives from the Consumer Council, professional organisations and academics in journalism. The CRRA was established in 2001 to encourage news reporting on issues relating to consumer interest, so as to strengthen the public’s understanding of consumer rights and to enhance their self-protection capacity.
