Food premises ordered to close

  • 2008.06.16

The Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) today (June 16) ordered the temporary closure of a food premises in Wan Chai for thorough cleaning and disinfection.

The FEHD was informed by the Department of Health of two suspected food poisoning outbreaks involving six people related to a restaurant at Shop B, ground floor, W Square, 314-324 Hennessy Road.

"Although we had advised the concerned premises to take control measures after the first outbreak, a second outbreak was notified today, thus showing signs of continuation. There are epidemiological grounds to support the temporary closure of the food premises for thorough cleaning and disinfection," a spokesman for the department said.

The food premises will remain closed until the Director of Food and Environmental Hygiene is fully satisfied that the immediate health hazards on the premises have been eliminated.

Under the Public Health and Municipal Services Ordinance, the Director is empowered to quickly close premises that pose an immediate health hazard to the public.
